Lauri Sawyer is a trial lawyer with experience litigating complex disputes in federal and state courts, as well as in domestic and international arbitral forums. Lauri has litigated cases involving complex financial products, derivatives, collateralized debt obligations, securities, shareholders claims, insurance coverage, project finance, executive compensation and advertising claims. In addition to being comfortable in the courtroom, Lauri also advises and assists clients in resolving disputes prior to trial through negotiation and mediation. Recently, Lauri was derivatives counsel to Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. and its affiliated debtors and tried the first derivatives cases in the Lehman bankruptcy.
Lauri regularly litigates in the international arena, particularly in disputes arising from financial products and foreign investments. She has participated in foreign court proceedings and appeals, as well as worldwide discovery and enforcement efforts. Lauri's international arbitration experience includes arbitrations pursuant to the AAA, ICC, and UNCITRAL rules, as well as ad hoc arbitrations. Lauri is experienced in the enforcement of arbitration awards and collateral proceedings designed to protect arbitration clauses. Prior to joining Jones Day, Lauri prosecuted several significant bilateral investment treaty disputes on behalf of foreign investors.
Lauri is also well-versed in disputes arising under the Lanham Act, particularly claims of false advertising. She has successfully prosecuted and defended actions in federal court and before the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Better Business Bureau. Moreover, Lauri regularly advises clients on marketing strategies, product launches and compliance issues.
Lauri is strongly committed to pro bono service, especially for clients with matrimonial and immigration issues. Lauri regularly lectures and teaches on ediscovery issues. She also serves on several advisory and nonprofit boards, including the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.
Marla S. K. Marla brings over 30 years’ expertise to her role as general counsel. She is a respected attorney, strategic advisor, and thought leader who speaks regularly on legal technology, electronic discovery, and information governance issues. Marla spent 22 years practicing law at the international firm, Jones Day, specializing in the discovery phase of litigation. She also served as associate general counsel for Goldman Sachs for 11 years where she led the firm’s global eDiscovery practice and focused on complex commercial and securities litigation and regulatory investigations. Marla’s expertise also includes advising on issues relating to information governance as well as the deployment of new technologies. Marla earned a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Duke University and graduated magna cum laude from Boston University, where she earned her Juris Doctor.
Heidi H. Santangelo is Assistant General Counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co. within the Legal Discovery Management Team. In this role, Ms. Santangelo manages a team of attorneys that provide end to end Discovery Management support to the firm’s Litigation portfolio. Ms. Santangelo has over ten years of experience in the eDiscovery industry – on the vendor side, private practice, and in-house.
