Loretta Smith is an Intellectual Property Senior Counsel at DuPont currently counselling a polymers business. A patent attorney since 1999, Ms. Smith has drafted patent applications for many, different kinds of inventions, including biological, biotech, mechanical, computer-implemented, and business methods and has worked at both large and small law firms before starting at DuPont in 20o4. An attorney since 1991, Ms. Smith was a litigator in a large New York firm and a clerk for the New York State Court of Appeals. Her litigation experience colors her patent drafting, prosecution, opinion work and counselling. She has an LL.M. in International Intellectual Property Law from Stockholm University and during law school, was an extern during the Uruguay Round Trade Negotiations at the GATT in Geneva, now the World Trade Organization, and published a monograph of her research there.
