Andrew Lance is a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Real Estate Practice Group and Global Finance Practice Group. He is resident in the New York office, where he is also Co-Partner in Charge of the office As Co-Head of the firm's Hotel and Hospitality Practice, Mr. Lance leads the firm's representation of clients in some of the most visible and challenging hotel, resort and branded luxury residence transactions globally. Mr. Lance's practice includes representation of management companies ranging from start-up boutique brand operators to the world' largest managers, and of real estate private equity, sovereign wealth, institutional and high net worth individual developers and owners of hotels and resorts globally in asset and joint venture transactions, including ground-up construction and branded residences. Mr. Lance also represents lenders in origination and restructuring of complex mortgage, mezzanine and debt structures, including in particular expertise with cash management and anti-money laundering practices, and during the financial crisis Mr. Lance restructured dozens of hotel and resort properties including development of the first major hotel A/B Note restructuring. He handles acquisitions and sales, construction and financing of hotels, resorts and hotel management agreements across North America, in Mexico, Brazil and the Caribbean, and in Europe and the MENA region, including the recent refinancing and franchising of the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, The Bahamas. Mr. Lance is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and a fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, is ranked by Chambers as a leading real estate lawyer, and has been an Adjunct Professor at New York Law School since 1985, teaching Commercial Real Estate Leasing and Land Transfer and Finance, a Visiting Lecturer at Yale Law School, and a lecturer at the New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate teaching Real Estate Finance and Investment Analysis. He also is a frequent lecturer at programs of the Practicing Law Institute, the New York State Bar Association, the International Council of Shopping Centers, and IMN Conferences. Mr. Lance earned his J.D. in 1983 from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Yale Law Journal. He earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1980 from Princeton University and attended the University of Paris.


Andrea is a member of the Ballard Spahr LLP Hospitality and Resort practice team, resident in the Baltimore office, and has been active in the hospitality industry for over twenty years. Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, Andrea served as Group Vice President, Strategic Development, Sourcing and Corporate Real Estate for Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, and as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Finance and Corporate Governance, for Marriott International, Inc. Her practice focus is commercial and corporate finance, real estate, and structured debt and equity. Her prior private practice experience includes partnership and of counsel positions with AmLaw 50 firms in New York, Washington, D.C and Baltimore. She is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys, and the American Bar Association. She is as a member of the Advisory Board and Planning Committee for the Georgetown University Law School Hotel and Lodging Conference, and is a frequent speaker and contributor to industry publications in real estate, finance, and hospitality.
