Global Advertising Law: Year in Review

Lígia Alvarenga is a Senior Associate Attorney at Veirano Advogados and has more than 10 years of experience in intellectual property law and information technology in different industries and fields of technology including IT, data protection and privacy, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, telecommunications and mechanics. She has worked in the largest law firms of Brazil, assisting clients in litigation, transactions and counseling, including practice and diligence before major federal and state courts, state attorneys’ offices and regulatory agencies such as INPI and ANVISA, assisting large companies in the pharmaceutical and technology industry, strategically with issues related to regulations, technology, patents, trade secrets, copyright and trademarks; dealing with trademark registrations and its administrative procedure before the INPI for foreign clients and filing of petitions in the trademark administrative area for domain name disputes on the Comitê de Gestão de Nomes de Domínio (Domain Name Management Committee).

She has also worked in one of the country's largest mobile phone companies, advising on product development, advertising, innovation, networking, technology, and all that is required for a company's telecommunications infrastructure, as well as marketing, regulatory issues regarding contests and sweepstakes, and such as regulatory issues regarding access to the global computer network, including different means of access, including the development of Internet usage, confidentiality and data protection policies, overseeing and advising on the implementation of cloud computing of the company's new data center, in accordance with the Marco Civil da Internet (Brazil’s New Internet Code of Law) and being the lead consultant in the process of reviewing open source software contracts, managing all trademarks, domain names, software, patent ownership (or licenses ) of the company and other companies of the same business conglomerate; drafting and negotiating technology-related trade agreements, payment processing and other services, and overseeing outsourced law firms.

She has also worked at a law firm in New York after completing her LL. M in 2016 with legal counseling in intellectual property, civil, criminal and Immigration Law, as well as litigation and advice on international business contracts between entities based in several countries in Latin America and the US.


As a member of the IP group, he mainly provides legal services in copyright, industrial property and civil law matters. As an associate professor at the Civil Law Department of ELTE ÁJK, he teaches these areas. His copyright publication work is extensive.

He is fluent in English and German.


Conor Griffin BCL, LLM, solicitor, is the Managing Partner of  Duncan Grehan & Partners, Solicitors where he has been working for over twenty years. He graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Law degree and subsequently also obtained his Masters degree in Commercial Law.  

Conor works regularly on the clearance of advertisements, marketing materials and sales promotions for national and international clients. He is an expert on providing clearance advice on advertising copy, advising on passing off, trademark infringement, competitions, promotions, lotteries, lottery licenses and transactions and documentation associated with the industry, agencies and advertisers. He is also involved in contentious and non-contentious general practice work such as breach of contract, private client litigation and commercial litigation.


Daniël advises on all aspects of advertising and marketing law, including (cross-border) clearance work, agency-client contracts, celebrity talent agreements, influencer agreements, license agreements, privacy, contests, promotions and dispute resolution in the advertising sector before the civil courts and self-regulatory bodies. His practice also includes the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights (including trademarks and copyright). Based in creative hub Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Daniël’s clients include many major ad agencies and high-profile brand owners active across a wide range of sectors, including FMCG, food & beverages, retail, entertainment, aviation, fashion, technology and charity.

Daniël chairs the Netherlands Advertising Law Association and is global vice-chairman of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA), a network of the leading advertising lawyers active in many countries across the globe.
