Blaze D. Waleski is Of Counsel to Moses & Singer and devotes the majority of his time to privacy, data protection and technology, particularly in the financial and healthcare sectors.
Before joining Moses & Singer, Blaze served as in-house counsel to the leading global information, consumer measurement and television ratings company, working on cutting edge issues in digital media, ad-tech, measurement and data analytics. Before that, he served as in-house counsel to one of the largest global financial institutions, concentrating on information technology (IT) and commercial matters in the financial sector. In private practice, he worked with two of the most prestigious and well-recognized global firms as their lead privacy and technology counsel.
Blaze co-authored the first legal treatise on privacy entitled 'Privacy Law,' published by Law Journal Press, a subsidiary of American Lawyer Media, which is updated biannually and is now in its 25th edition. He has also lectured and published other materials on information security, data privacy and technology, including the publication 'The Legal Implications of Information Security: Regulatory Compliance and Liability Handbook of Information Security,' distributed by Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Blaze's experience includes counseling on compliance with data protection laws and industry self-regulation; drafting and negotiating commercial and technology contracts and outsourcing arrangements; and structuring and implementing technology transfers through licensing, services and acquisitions, and advising on data privacy matters in M&A activities.
His work in privacy includes cross border data transfers; regulatory compliance in financial and health privacy; data collection, use and sharing practices, particularly in online and mobile environments; interest based advertising; developing and updating client-facing privacy notices; developing and implementing internal data privacy and information security policies, and advising on company assessments and audits; addressing data security breaches; and privacy by design in digital technologies and mobile app and website development.
His work in technology includes patent, copyright and trademark licensing; software, content, data and financial index licensing; cloud-based solutions and SaaS/PaaS/IaaS arrangements; equipment and hardware procurement; telecom agreements; and IT services, including networking, data centers, systems design and integration, contingency planning and technology escrows. He also handles monetization of IP and technology assets, research and development projects and BPO/ITO/KPO outsourcing.
Blaze has diverse industry background in financial services, life sciences, pharma/biotech, healthcare, data and information services, computer software, telecom, publishing, media and entertainment, theme parks, automotive, energy and gas, consumer products and retail, among other fields. He has counseled Fortune 100, global, and middle market clients in a variety of matters, ranging from multi-billion dollar acquisitions to domain name registrations.
