Shelley defends professionals in a wide range of liability issues, focusing on counseling attorneys facing disciplinary and malpractice matters. Having worked as Litigation Counsel for the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC), Shelley has a deep knowledge and understanding of attorney disciplinary proceedings.

During her tenure with the ARDC, Shelley investigated hundreds of charges of lawyer misconduct, including the misappropriation of client funds, criminal conduct, conflicts of interest, and the neglect of client matters. She also represented the Administrator of the ARDC in over 20 proceedings before the Inquiry and Hearing Boards, handling all phases of the litigation, and before the Illinois Supreme Court.

With her extensive experience, Shelley frequently presented to Chicago-area law schools, bar associations, and other entities on ethics and professional responsibility. Currently, she is an inaugural member of the ABA New Lawyers Steering Committee.

Cassidy Chivers is a shareholder at Barron & Newburger P.C. She specializes in counseling lawyers and law firms on all aspects of ethics and risk management.  Cassidy is the co-leader of Barron & Newburger’s risk management program, Attorneys Risk Management, which offers risk management and ethics advice to lawyers and law firms nationwide. She also serves as outside general counsel for a number of California law firms, ranging from small partnerships to AM Law 50 firms, advising on a wide array of law practice management, ethics and regulatory issues, including conflicts review protocols, engagement agreements, law firm formation and dissolution, succession planning, lawyer and staff wellness programs, among other aspects of the business of law that are critical to a law firm’s success and longevity.

Cassidy is a member of the State Bar of California’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (COPRAC). She is also a State Bar of California Certified Specialist in the area of Legal Malpractice Law.
